Wild Beast

SEE THIS IN PRINT IN THE BOOK ‘PRAYER AND TRIVIALITY’, available on Amazon 🙂

Such a wild animal

Powerful and terrifying

Why must it live within me?

O Lord I beg You once again,

Help me tame the tongue.

Unruly and unpredictable

Rebellious and unsafe

Why won’t it do as I command?

Holy Spirit, please come to my aid;

Help me tame the tongue.

It just keeps rambling

Speaking many irrelevancies

Why must it go against my plans?

O Father, put a guard at its door…

Help me tame the tongue.

It leaves me feeling stupid

Or remorseful, or embarrassed

Why does it have a will of its own?

O Jesus, may I follow Your example,

Help me tame the tongue.

Saltwater and fresh water

Cannot flow from one stream.

Why does it appear such a mixture?

Mighty God, come to my aid,

Help me tame the tongue.

Such an external processor

Babbling unfinished thoughts.

Why am I this involuntarily open?

Saviour, I plead for your assistance:

Help me tame the tongue.

From the heart’s overflow

Comes all sorts from within

Why, then, does it ever surprise me?

O refiner’s Fire, cleanse this heart;

Help me tame the tongue.
