O solitary Moon,
You who receive the gaze and songs
Of innumerable solitary hearts,
Do you feel as lonely as they?
Do you convey those love messages,
Those feelings they feel that you sent
In response to their sighing clamour?
–
O solitary Moon,
You who convey the ceaseless rays
Of that great ever-casting Star,
Do you ever envy her light?
Do you wish it were truly your own,
That glow yet borrowed, thrown afar
In response to Earth’s cry for light?
–
O solitary Moon,
You who appear in pleasant company
Of innumerable far-flung stars,
Do you govern, or serve, or watch?
Do you ponder at their existence,
Those strange lights ever glittering
In response to God’s creative word?
–
O solitary Moon,
You who wax and wane in full view
Of thousands of eager eyes,
Do you ever feel self conscious?
Do you pride in your clothing of light,
Those glorious rays that shift softly
In response to the Universe’s mood?
–
O solitary Moon,
You who gaze with steady expression
Of tranquil, thoughtful philosophy,
Do you wonder at life’s purpose?
Do you listen to endless rambling,
Those ceaseless tales circulating
In response to the questions of life?
